NYC MetroCard necklace
The New York City MetroCard may be fading into history, but its memories are far from gone.
As soon as the card began disappearing, people held mock “funerals,” listed old cards on eBay, and suddenly this everyday transit pass became a collectible.
I couldn’t resist joining that nostalgia in my own way—by turning it into jewelry.
This necklace is inspired by the iconic MetroCard that followed the era of subway tokens and defined daily life in NYC for decades.
To add a personal twist, I replaced the familiar transit logo with an apple silhouette, a subtle nod to the Big Apple and the spirit of New York.
If you’ve lived in New York—or even just visited—you probably have a MetroCard story. Swipes that didn’t work, rushing through turnstiles, or unexpected delays… even the frustrating moments somehow become fond memories over time.
This necklace is a tribute to those shared urban experiences and the charm of a city constantly evolving. A playful yet meaningful piece for New Yorkers, travelers, and anyone who loves NYC culture and design.
Wear it as a reminder that even ordinary objects can become extraordinary memories.

Tips for plating jewelry
- Do not spray on perfume or other sprays while wearing gold/rhodium plated jewelry.
- Wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear gold/rhodium plated bracelet or necklace.
- Substances like oil, nail polish, nail polish remover, chlorine, and perfume may react with metal/plated jewelry and cause it to tarnish. This is also true for sweat, so make sure you remove your gold/rhodium plated jewelry when you exercise or doing anything requiring heavy work and when swimming.
- After every use, clean your plated jewelry with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt. Gently rubbing the surface of your gold/rhodium plated jewelry using a soft jewelry cloth, helps restore shine. Do *not* use a polishing cloth as this will strip away the plating.
- To avoid scratches, wrap your jewelry in a soft cloth after cleaning or keep it in a jewelry box separate from other types of jewelry you have. Small zip-locks work great
