New Kind of Inspiration

Recently, I’ve been working on something a little different from my usual jewelry projects — dot art based on Islamic geometric patterns.
It all started when I opened a promotional email from a Japanese handmade platform (which I usually don't care so much). But for some reason, I clicked this one — maybe because my finger joints were a bit stiff that day, and I was looking for a new kind of creative inspiration.
One course immediately caught my eye: a dot mandala drawing online class. I took it and enjoyed it so much that I finished the whole thing in no time. Then, I started searching for other styles.
As you may know, I use Arabic script in my jewelry and have always been interested in Islamic geometric patterns. So I thought — why not combine them?
Instead of traditional mandalas, I began drawing Islamic geometric patterns and filling them with dots. The process is different — Islamic patterns have lots of straight lines and precise symmetry — but creating unity from countless small dots is fascinating. Depending on the color combinations or which lines you emphasize, even the same pattern looks completely different.
After making several postcard-sized artworks, I brought them to a Japanese pop-up event two weeks ago. Honestly, I wasn’t sure if people would be interested… but I actually sold some! And my artist friends gave me lots of encouragement, which motivated me to keep going.
Now I’m making more — not just because they’re beautiful, but because seeing the pattern gives you serenity and calmness. There’s something meditative about repeating patterns and placing each dot with care.
I’m bringing these new pieces to my next pop-up, which is tomorrow!
